She is a performer as well as a designer, and music pioneer. She was the first Mexican American artist who was traditional yet modern. She brought both cultures together and brought Tejano music into the mainstream. The same way many people mourn a star who has died far too early, her passing was not a good time and ended a growing career. As a result fans were inspired throughout the years to dig in their heels even harder working to make sure her accomplishments won't be lost in the dust. Selena was the Tejano artist who was tragically killed in a shooting accident, has sparked the Latino response that could be thought of as similar to the reactions to Elvis Presley's and John Lennon's death. Selena was a wildly popular Latino singer across North America. Her music transcended boundaries and brought joy to both young people and older adults. Selena might have been described by many as the Latina Madonna, but she is still a great role model. Selena's off-stage family values as well as her involvement with AIDS awareness campaigns provide a great example.
